Batavia Business and Professional Women’s Club (BBPW), 2015-2016 Scholarship Committee, has awarded scholarships to five Genesee County high school students, two Genesee Valley Educational Partnership (GVEP) and one returning student from Genesee Community College.

High School Award winners are: Olivia George (Alexander), Paige Hameister (Batavia), Alyssa Juliano (Batavia), Emma Smith (LeRoy), Riley D’Alba (Oakfield-Alabama) and Madison Rogers (Pavilion).   Each receive a $750 check to support their educational and career goals. These scholarships are open to Genesee County high schools seniors (male or female).  Each student maintained an 85% average, complete a one-page BPW application with a letter of recommendation from a school staff member.  Each student submitted a personal essay discussing their achievements and future goals as well as an essay from a parent. The finalists were interviewed by the BPW Scholarship Committee in late April and were notified by one of the scholarship committee members.

The GCC $500 scholarship award is being presented to returning student, Stacy Daniel.  The selection process for the GCC award is completed by the Genesee Community College Foundation.

Our GVEP $250 scholarship award winners are Tyler Weaver and Owen Thompson.  Both of these students were selected through the Genesee Valley Educational Partnership, Student Services committee.

All of the award winners were invited to the BBPW June Banquet, which was held, Thursday, June 1, 2017 at the Dibble Family Center.

Additionally, BBPW club members voted at their May Meeting on the Service awards to be distributed and this year four $300 checks were awarded to Genesee Cancer Assistance, Crossroads House, Operation Injured Soldiers and MS.  To be considered for the service award a letter with appropriate letterhead was sent to the BPW requesting consideration. The service committee is involved with service projects throughout the community.  The group has volunteered for bell ringing for the Salvation Army,  preparing lunch for the workers of Habitat for Humanity, being guides for Genesee Cancer Assistance “Tour of Homes” and working on the Festival of Hope. These are just a few of the special events and projects that we have been involved with since the committee formed.  We take requests from community groups and enlist volunteers from the club to help out at these worthwhile projects.
